Women Veterans Recognition Day

The Alameda County Veterans’ Affairs Commission invites you to join us in honor of Women Veterans' Recognition Day  to celebrate the many contributions of women to our armed forces.

When: Thursday, June 12th, 2025

Where: The Crow’s Nest, Alameda Naval Air Museum - 2151 Ferry Pt. Alameda, CA

The event will feature notable women veterans and elected officials from Alameda County including Captain Kerri Chase, the Commanding Officer of the Alameda Reserve Center, and Alameda County District 3 Supervisor Lena Tam, and Commander Trisha Kelly, the Commanding Officer of the Alameda Naval Reserve Center.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Women Veterans Recognition Day commemorates the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act that was signed into law on June 12, 1948. The law allows women the right to permanently serve in the US Armed Services. While women have been fighting for our country since the American Revolution, their contributions had been largely unrecognized until the 1970s. We are proud to present awards at this event to women veterans in Alameda County to honor their achievements and service.

The Alameda County Veterans’ Affairs Commission promotes veterans’ observance days such as this one throughout the year to show gratitude, raise awareness, and support those who have served their country. The Commission also works to coordinate and maximize services to veterans including meeting basic needs of food, shelter, transportation, and employment.

The museum was founded by Marilyn York, a WWII veteran who served in the Navy WAVES

Space is limited.  RSVP not required, but recommended.
